Brioschi, the Original in the blue bottle origins date back to 1880 when Achille Antonio Brioschi began producing the effervescent now known as Brioschi. Brioschi (1860-1942) was an apprentice at several manufacturers of chemical and pharmaceutical products. Brioschi the effervescent is a powder that dissolves in water, it was not considered a medicine until the business began to expand and Brioschi began to export Brioschi. Brioschi was first exported to Brazil, later the United States and Ticino. Brioschi the product first became available in the United States in 1894 and the business became Achille Brioschi & Company in 1907.

Brioschi, best known in the United States for its unique blue bottle is an antacid and uses sodium bicarbonate and tartaric acid as active agents. Brioschi today is less of a powder and more of similar to pellets. When placed in water it begins fizzing. The product is used tor relief of heartburn, upset stomachs and acid indigestion. Brioschi does not contain aspirin.

The modern version of Brioschi has been in existence for over 125 years. Known for its effectiveness treating heartburn, acid indigestion and upset stomachs without additives, aspirin or preservatives it has made Brioschi a staple for many. Brioschi is an over the counter product that does not require a prescription. It is an all-natural antacid that provides fast, safe relief.

Many antacids contain several additives such as calcium, aluminum and magnesium. Brioschi does not contain calcium, calcium can stimulate Gastrin which is a hormone that stimulates stomach acids which could cause what is known as acid rebound, and Brioschi provides relief without calcium. Brioschi does not contain aluminum or magnesium either. Antacids that contain magnesium may cause diarrhea while antacids containing aluminum could cause constipation, Brioschi does not contain either while still providing highly effective relief.

Over time Brioschi became a staple in Italian-American households, adults would use it regularly and the phrase “Where is the Brioschi” was heard often in homes from the Northeast to the upper Midwest. Kids always enjoyed taking their medicine when it came to Brioschi, not only did it work well but the belches it produced were to say the least loud. Not only would kids take Brioschi to settle an upset stomach but would often place it on their tongue for the fizzing effect, similar to pop rocks.
